Who should not use it

Do not use The Redness Control Formula^Rx if any of the following apply to you. If your situation changes after your assessment, contact your DermClick care team before continuing use.

You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing, since oxymetazoline is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding
You have a known allergy or sensitivity to oxymetazoline, niacinamide, Centella asiatica, ceramides, or any other listed ingredient
You have a history of cardiovascular disease, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, or arrhythmia
You have severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure
You have Raynaud's syndrome or other peripheral circulation disorders
You have cerebrovascular disease or have experienced a stroke
You are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or have taken them within the past 14 days
You have orthostatic hypotension or low blood pressure
You have an active skin infection or open wounds in the application area
You are under 18 years of age

Warnings and precautions

Cardiovascular precautions

Oxymetazoline is a vasoconstrictor and can affect blood vessels beyond the application site. Patients with cardiovascular conditions (coronary artery disease, hypertension, heart failure, arrhythmia, Raynaud's syndrome, cerebrovascular disease) should not use this medication. If you develop chest pain, palpitations, severe headache, or signs of cardiovascular symptoms during treatment, stop using and seek medical attention.

Pregnancy and nursing

Do not use during pregnancy, while planning a pregnancy, or while nursing. If your pregnancy status changes during treatment, contact your DermClick care team immediately. The Redness & Acne Formula^Rx is the pregnancy-safe rosacea option in the DermClick lineup.

Eye contact and ocular effects

Avoid contact with eyes. If oxymetazoline gets into the eye, rinse thoroughly with cool water. Topical use near the eyes can rarely cause pupil dilation, eye irritation, or vision changes. If these occur, stop use and contact your DermClick care team.

Rebound redness

Some patients experience rebound redness (worse-than-baseline redness) when oxymetazoline wears off, particularly if used inconsistently. Consistent daily use as prescribed minimizes this. If you experience significant rebound, contact your DermClick care team.

Sun sensitivity

Sun exposure is a primary rosacea trigger. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning, after The Redness Control Formula^Rx has absorbed. Daily SPF is non-negotiable for rosacea management.

Waxing and laser treatments

Pause use of The Redness Control Formula^Rx for at least one week before and after waxing, laser treatments, or chemical peels on the application area. Consult your DermClick care team.

Drug interactions

Tell your dermatology provider about any prescription or over-the-counter medications you use, especially:

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), which are contraindicated; do not use within 14 days of an MAOI
Beta blockers, which may interact with oxymetazoline's cardiovascular effects
Antihypertensive medications, as oxymetazoline may interfere with blood pressure control
Tricyclic antidepressants
Other vasoconstrictor or decongestant medications, oral or topical
Other topical rosacea treatments, which are generally safe to layer but should be discussed with your dermatology provider

Possible side effects

Common side effects

These are typical of topical oxymetazoline treatment and usually settle within the first 1 to 2 weeks.

Mild burning, stinging, or warmth at the application site
Temporary worsening of redness when the medication wears off (rebound)
Skin dryness or peeling at the application site
Mild itching
Headache

Less common side effects

Worsening of rosacea symptoms (paradoxical flare)
Contact dermatitis or allergic reaction at the application site
Pupil dilation or mild eye irritation if the medication enters the eye
Cold extremities (hands, feet), a possible sign of systemic vasoconstriction
Dizziness or lightheadedness

Your DermClick care team can adjust your protocol if these become uncomfortable.

Rare but serious

Contact your DermClick care team or seek emergency care if you experience:

Chest pain, palpitations, or irregular heartbeat
Severe headache or sudden severe rise in blood pressure
Vision changes or persistent eye irritation
Signs of stroke or cerebrovascular event (sudden numbness, weakness, slurred speech, severe headache)
Severe rash, hives, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
Difficulty breathing
Signs of severe allergic reaction

How to use it

Application

Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin on the affected area once daily in the morning. Wait at least 20 minutes after washing your face before application. Wash your hands immediately after applying to avoid transfer to eyes or other areas.

Frequency

Use once daily in the morning. Do not exceed one application per day. Consistent daily use minimizes rebound redness.

Amount

A pea-sized amount is enough for the entire face. More is not better and can increase the risk of side effects.

Storage

Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the cap closed when not in use. Do not freeze.

Shelf life

Use within the period indicated on your prescription label. Do not use after the expiration date.

Apply The Redness Control Formula^Rx first, on clean, dry skin. Wait 15 to 20 minutes for it to absorb fully before applying moisturizer, SPF, or makeup. If you are using an evening rosacea treatment, apply it as directed at night.

Morning

Gentle, fragrance-free cleanser, then The Redness Control Formula^Rx. Wait 15 to 20 minutes, then apply moisturizer, broad-spectrum SPF 30+, and makeup.

Evening

Gentle cleanser, then your evening rosacea treatment if prescribed, then a barrier-supporting, fragrance-free moisturizer.

If you have a reaction

For mild irritation

Stop application for 2 to 3 days, apply a fragrance-free, barrier-supporting moisturizer, and message your DermClick care team. We can adjust your formula or your application protocol.

For moderate to severe reactions

Stop using the medication. Message your DermClick care team. Send photos if you can. Your dermatology provider will review and respond.

For medical emergencies

For chest pain, palpitations, severe headache, sudden vision changes, signs of stroke (sudden numbness, weakness, slurred speech), or signs of severe allergic reaction, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately.
